In 2026 Afghanistan has introduced a new online visa system. Now, tourists can apply for an Afghan tourist visa digitally without visiting an embassy. Applications are submitted through the E-Afghans Portal. The system appears to be run by the Afghan Consulate in Dubai. While the system is still new and evolving, early reports from fellow travelers suggest the new Afghanistan e-visa is already working.

  • The system does not lock the user out at any point.

Important Tips for Filling Out the Application

It is recommended to complete the entire application in one go without interruptions.

Passport Date of Issuance and Expiry Date

Tourists should carefully double-check the passport dates: passport date of issuance and passport expiry date. At one point it looked like the system switched the dates, so it is worth verifying them before submitting the form.

Visa Type: Select Tourist.

Visa Duration: There is only one option available, which is 3 months. Simply select that.

Entry Date: The exact entry date is not very important. Once the visa is issued, the tourist has three months to enter Afghanistan.

Complete Address in Afghanistan: name of the hotel where they will be staying in Kabul.

Sponsor Section: One of the questions asks: “Do you have a sponsor?”

Tourists can select Yes or No. The form allows either option, which means that a Letter of Invitation does not appear to be strictly required. If the tourist selects Yes (for example, if working with a local tour agency), the system will ask for:

  • Sponsor name: there is limited space in the text field, so write whatever fits if the full agency name does not fit.
  • Taskira number: the Taskira number can be easily copied and pasted.
  • Address of the tour agency: for the address, it must be typed manually. One important detail: the field does not allow punctuation marks or numbers. If there is a number in the address, write the number using letters instead of digits.

Attachments: Uploading documents from a phone is very easy. Applicants will need to upload:

  • A passport photo: The form shows the photo requirements and parameters. Simply upload the same photo typically used for visa applications.
  • A copy of the passport
  • A national ID (example: Hungarian ID)
  • A Letter of Invitation (as a screenshot, if applicable)

All files upload without any issues.

Remarks: At the end of the form there is a remarks section where tourists can write additional comments.

Signature: After completing the form, the system requires a digital signature to finalize the application.

Payment of the Service Fee

After submitting the form, the applicants receives an email with a payment link. By clicking on the link, the online service fee can be paid, including the payment processing fee. The total amount is $8.25 USD. Payment options are modern and convenient, including Apple Pay.

Paying the Visa Fee & Receiving the E-Visa

Approximately three hours after submitting the application, the applicants receives an email asking to complete the visa payment fee. The visa fee is $120 USD, plus a payment processing fee of 3%. The processing can be done by express version and you get the visa more quickly than in 1-3 weekd.

As soon as the visa fee is paid, an email arrives confirming that the Afghan e-visa application has been approved, with the e-visa attached as a PDF. Once approved, the visa is issued electronically and can be downloaded and printed before travel.

Obtaining a Physical Visa of Afghanistan

If for any reason you prefer to obtain a physical visa, we will advise you which Embassy or consulate of Afghanistan to apply to for a valid visa. We will send you a Letter of Invitation from our company to help with your visa application, and a copy of the LGA license will be attached. Please print it out and keep it with you along with your passport, two passport photos and the visa fee when applying. It is not possible to apply online and you must apply in person to receive a visa.
